Labioplasty - aesthetic modification of the female genitalia
Some women have a problem with the excessive size, deformity or asymmetry of the labia minora, which causes difficulties in sports activities, sexual intercourse and personal hygiene. In addition, they can be a source of feelings of loss of self-confidence and disturbances in sexual life.
Surgery can reduce the size of the labia minora and can also remove the excess in the clitoral area.
The course of the surgery
During the consultation, the course of the surgery and the post-operative course will be explained to you. The surgery is most often performed under local anaesthesia on an outpatient basis, but if the patient wishes, the procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia with analgosedation (administration of sedative drugs) or under general anaesthesia during hospitalisation. During the operation, the surgeon marks the excess tissue of the labia minora with a drawing and then infiltrates the surgical field with a local anaesthetic solution and a bleeding-control drug. She removes the excess skin and treats the bleeding vessels and sutures the edges of the wound with absorbable sutures.
Postoperative course
Normal personal hygiene should be practiced after surgery, with sitz baths and gentle washing with disinfectant soap 2-3 times a day recommended.
- With a normal healing process, it is possible to return to normal activities in about 1-2 weeks.
- Swelling and any bruising in the operated area will subside within three weeks.
- It takes several months for the scars to mature.
- Sexual intercourse is not recommended for about 4-6 weeks.
Risks
Early post-operative complications such as bleeding, infection or wound rupture with subsequent prolonged healing can be a risk.Wound breakdown can occur due to infection, reduced immunity of the body, mechanical violence (e.g. a fall), failure to follow the regimen prescribed by the physician or even without an identifiable cause. Sometimes there are also long-term problems, e.g. painful scars in the intimate area.
