As we age, wrinkles appear in the face, first around the eyes, mouth and neck. Several methods can be used to restore a fresh and more youthful appearance to the face. Treatment depends on the condition and age of the skin and the depth and amount of wrinkles. Unwanted signs of facial aging can be addressed, for example, by tightening the facial skin, the so-called facelift.
Why do wrinkles happen? There are many factors for wrinkle formation, including excessive sun exposure, smoking, hormonal influences - the skin loses elasticity and dries out. Other influences are the facial muscles, which when overly contracted contribute to the formation of facial wrinkles - especially around the eyes or forehead. To reduce the appearance of wrinkles, wrinkle filling with botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport) helps. We use filler materials to improve the appearance of deep static wrinkles.
Filling of wrinkles and lips with hyaluronic acid or own fat
There are several types of filler materials - most commonly I use hyaluronic acid-based wrinkle and lip fillers and patient's own fat. Fillers can be used to rejuvenate the appearance of the face, fill facial hollows, or enhance the lips. The results are visible immediately, lasting approximately 6 - 24 months depending on the type of filler.
Own fat - the biggest advantage is that the wrinkles are filled with material that comes from your own body, eliminating the possible reaction to foreign material. The fat is taken from different areas - thighs, abdomen, buttocks - similar to liposuction, then it is prepared in a tube and injected into the selected area of the face. The result is visible immediately.
The course of the procedure
The fillers are then injected into the skin using a very thin special needle, the procedure is not very painful, so it can be performed without anaesthesia, using locally applied anaesthetic creams.
Postoperative care
After injection, there is sometimes a small amount of swelling and redness at the injection site, which can be masked with make-up. The application does not restrict you in any way in your normal life, you can return to work immediately. Do not expose the treated area to intense heat or cold for 3-4 days. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption, sauna visits and sunbathing during this time. Do not massage the treated area.
Visible swelling and hematomas are more common when hyaluronic acid lip augmentation is used, and a rest period of about 2-3 days is recommended. The effects of the treatment are long lasting but not permanent.
Risks
Redness, swelling and itching are sometimes experienced after the procedure, and we occasionally find asymmetry or unevenness of the skin. The most severe and fortunately very uncommon complications include skin discoloration and sensitivity, inflammation, and exceptionally, some of the skin may die. Allergic reactions to the substance administered are also rare.
